FOOD SPOTS

Detroit’s dining and beverage scene offers something for every mood and craving. Start the day with a hearty plate at Hudson’s Cafe or a light breakfast and coffee from local favorites like Cannelle. Break up the day with Italian at San Morello or fresh sandwiches and salads at Avalon for lunch. In the evening, experience an immersive Japanese dining concept at Hiroki San or visit the Parisian-inspired brasserie, Le Suprême before ending the night with rooftop views at Gilly’s Rooftop or cocktails at The Monarch Club, The Evening Bar or Wright & Co.

MUSEUMS & TOURS

Discover Detroit’s history and culture with a visit to the Motown Museum, home to the legendary recording studio, Studio A, where iconic Motown hits were born. Schedule a tour to learn more about the history of Hudson’s at the Detroit Historical Society, or spend an afternoon appreciating the architecture and world-class collection at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

BELLE ISLE

Minutes from downtown is Belle Isle, the beautiful 982-acre park located on the Detroit River. The island park is accessible via a bridge at the foot of East Grand Boulevard, where visitors can explore attractions like the Belle Isle Aquarium, Nature Center, Great Lakes Museum and the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory. There are also opportunities for guests to enjoy outdoor activities or take in scenic views of the river.

HISTORY

For generations, the J.L. Hudson Department Store was the premier retailer in Detroit and one of the most important department stores in the country. As the store’s physical footprint grew over the decades, so too did its place in the collective hearts and minds of Detroiters.

At one time, the J.L. Hudson Department Store was the largest in the United States. Construction began in  1891 and would undergo 12 expansions, ultimately reaching a height of 25 stories and covering an entire city block. The massive flagship store anchored the bustling Woodward Avenue corridor and was a destination location for both domestic and international shopping enthusiasts.

Despite its impressive history and outsized presence in Detroit, the J.L. Hudson Department Store closed its doors in 1983 and was eventually demolished in 1998. In 2017, Bedrock broke ground and has ensured that the history of the site is echoed in the new Hudson's Detroit.

FAQs
Will there be tours offered?

Yes, tours of floors three and five will be available from 7 PM to 9 PM.

What should I wear?

A “fashion formal” dress code is a spin on traditional formal wear that encourages creativity, style, and a touch of the avant-garde. Unlike a strict black-tie event, which often requires a tuxedo or a full-length gown, “fashion formal” allows for more personal expression and contemporary trends. The goal is to be elegant and polished while also showcasing your unique style and a sense of fashion-forward thinking.
Here is a brief description for what men and women should wear:

For Women: Think of it as an elevated cocktail dress code. A floor-length gown is still an excellent choice, but you can opt for something with a unique silhouette, a bold color, a sophisticated print, or a non-traditional fabric. A chic, tailored pantsuit or a dressy jumpsuit in a luxurious fabric like silk, velvet, or crepe is also an ideal choice. Statement accessories, such as bold jewelry, a sculptural clutch, or avant-garde shoes, are encouraged to add a “fashion” element to your look.

For Men: This is your chance to step beyond the standard black suit. A well-tailored suit is the foundation, but consider a different color like deep burgundy, emerald green, or a rich navy. You could also wear a textured or patterned jacket (e.g., velvet or subtle brocade) with classic black dress pants. A stylish dress shirt, a sophisticated tie or bow tie, and polished dress shoes are essential. The “fashion” aspect comes from the details—a unique pocket square, cufflinks, or a modern cut to your suit. The key is to look sharp and sophisticated, but with a confident and creative twist.”
